      Upon completing this unit, learners will be able to:

      • Understand the main ideas and summarise information from video extracts of authentic public talks on the topic of learning;
      • Take part in discussions about effective learning and educational issues, giving extended, coherent, organised answers, speaking fluently with only some language-related hesitation;
      • Examine their beliefs about effective learning and become aware of their learning strategies;
      • Use metacognitive strategies to organise their self-directed reading practice;
      • Use compensation strategies to infer the meaning from context.
