Unit Objectives:
Upon completing this unit, learners will be able to:
- Understand the main ideas and summarise information from video extracts of authentic public talks on the topic of learning;
- Take part in discussions about effective learning and educational issues, giving extended, coherent, organised answers, speaking fluently with only some language-related hesitation;
- Examine their beliefs about effective learning and become aware of their learning strategies;
- Use metacognitive strategies to organise their self-directed reading practice;
- Use compensation strategies to infer the meaning from context.
-
-
You will examine your attitudes and beliefs about reading and start thinking about the ways to make your reading more effective. You will also discuss some ideas about an independent reading program which will prepare you to the reading that will be assigned as homework.
-
The activity is meant to show that inferencing can be helpful and how it can be done.
